Welcome back, blog readers! For May, the Stone Team is adding Appt to Appeal to the list of distinguished Tribute honorees. They are so excited to bring you their interpretations of this Appaloosa – Appaloosas are a particular favorite at Stone!
Appt to Appeal is a portrait of a real Appaloosa stallion who was owned at the time by David & Stephanie Weir of Our Pleasure Appaloosas in Moisinee, WI. He was a shaded dark bay semi-leopard with a stripe and white lightning marks on all 4 legs. Appt to Appeal sired 7 foals – 6 Appaloosas and 1 Pony of the Americas. A notable colt of his is App Solute Appeal, 1999 Reserve National Champion Weanling Non-Pro Colt.

He is a 1994 foal born to sire Goer and dam Plaudy’s Princess. Hobbyists may recognize a few horses in his pedigree, most notably Prince Plaudit and Go Man Go, who have also been memorialized as models over the years by companies, individuals, or both.

Introduced in Stone plastic in 1998 as a Regular Run, Appt to Appeal was one of the earliest editions of the Performance Horse mold. Sculpted by D’Arry Jone Frank, the mold included both roached and loose mane versions from its introduction. Appt to Appeal features the loose mane. He debuted in 1998 and was also included in the 1999 catalog. His Appaloosa features, though less detailed by today’s standards, represented innovation for his time. Appaloosa colors were sparsely offered in the earliest years of Stone and the appaloosa patterns were most commonly created entirely using airbrushes with older clamp masks like the one seen in Manchester’s article from March.
Appt, along with a few others in the 1998 cohort marked the introduction of freehand airbrushing for appaloosa blankets plus hand painted spots. This technique was dominantly used for a couple of years before masking advancements were introduced, and the freehand-airbrushed appaloosa blankets were more often used in tandem with other techniques within the artistic toolkit from that point on.
Check out the modern interpretations of Appt to Appeal on the New Releases page beginning Friday, May 15th 2 PM Eastern. All 2026 Tribute models will be available until they sell out!
I look forward to seeing some of you next week at Country Fair! Safe travels to everyone joining the party!
