The Psychopomp – a spirit born of thresholds, a sacred guardian between beginning and end. One wing dips toward the earth, feathers inscribed with "OMNES UNA MANET NOX" – “The same night awaits us all” – honoring the shared fate of every soul, while the other reaches skyward, bearing the words "LUX ANIMÆ VIAM MONSTRAT" – “The light of the soul shows the way” – a reminder that true direction comes from within. Its skeletal frame gleams with golden sinews, red gems shimmering within its hollowed center like embers of warm memories. It is both ruin and radiance – the last face the lost will see and the first light on the road beyond. This being is the witness of the end and the herald of what comes after. Will you follow into the unknown? – Jess Hamill, Artist
Folks, I am being honest here when I say I am rather speechless at how to describe this piece to you. Carissa has done customization in plastic that frankly we weren’t sure was possible. The vision she had to create this piece, the carving she did through the whole model to reveal its decaying skeleton and skin falling away, its joints that are held together with golden memories and topped with massive curling horns. Jess painted it to a jaw dropping remains of appaloosa, with hair detailing where hair remains, and ivory golden bone shading where its skeleton is exposed. It has golden teeth and detailing throughout, plus an added gold hoop earring. Hundreds of red crystals encrust its inner cavity, carefully placed by Kate Dille – this piece has been a group effort all the way through. Lit from within with LED attachments (we will include extra batteries), it is destined to be the centerpiece of a collection and without equal.
There is no amount of money that exists that would get us to try and gloss it – it comes just as it is in these photos!
