Enrique always creates with conscience, and this product line is his idea to shine a light on some of the world’s most fragile species that are in danger of extinction. In groups of ten models each month, Enrique will illustrate creatures from regions around the world.
For August, Enrique is honoring the charming sea turtle. There are seven species of marine turtles, and five of them are considered threatened. They are found in all oceans except for the polar regions of the world. They eat a varied diet, with some eating only jellyfish, while others lean more herbivorous with a diet of sea grass and algae. Humans have had a negative impact on sea turtle populations for hundreds of years, hunting them for use in food, shoes, and decorative items like tortoiseshell hairclips. Costa Rica is considered the founding location for the sea turtle conservation movement, and around the world, volunteers participate in patrols along beaches to protect sea turtle nesting sites.
We have two decorator models this month, both on the Tennessee Walking Horse sculpture. The first features a gorgeous mural of an underwater environment with coral reefs and sea turtles. Enrique employed a palette of soft blues, greens, browns, pinks, and yellows to create this mural. Sea Turtle is finished with brown eyes and is available in all finish options.
